Venda Cultural Experience
The Soutpansberg Mountains of the Limpopo Province in South Africa is the home of the Venda people, the smallest of the South African cultures. The Venda culture is steeped in the spirit world and finds expression in their wood carvings, pottery and general decoration. It is built on a vibrant mythical belief system, and water is an important theme – the belief that lakes and rivers are sacred. Drums are central in the culture and there are legends and symbols linked to them.
Travelling north along the main roads, suggested routes from Morning Sun Nature Reserve enable you to explore the panoramic Soutpansberg mountains. Towards the west, you can view the salt pans. The Baobab forest will take you eastwards to the Giant Baobab tree or travel northwards to Mapungubwe World Heritage Site.
